We Won A 2016 Good Food Award

We’re proud to announce our Gochu Curry Kraut has been awarded a 2016 Good Food Award in the Pickles category.

Unfortunately we could not attend Friday night's amazing ceremony in San Francisco, featuring Carlo Petrini, Alice Waters and Nell Newman, but it's a great thrill to be recognized for the second consecutive year (our Kimchi won in the same category in 2015) by this wonderful organization.

We love that they say "we celebrate the kind of food we all want to eat: tasty, authentic and responsibly produced" because it acknowledges the complete method behind the meal.

To have our handmade ferments, featuring sustainably grown ingredients from right here in the Berkshires, reach a national audience and be mentioned in the same sentence as so many of these other great companies is an incredible honor.

Congratulations to all our fellow winners, particularly those here in the Berkshires, and thank you to the Good Food Retailers Collaborative, sponsoring organizations and judges.

And, thank you as always to all the farms, stores, restaurants, wellness centers, farmers markets and customers who have supported us.

We'll be celebrating our fifth anniversary later this year and this is great way to kick-off 2016!

Berkshire Grown Winter Farmers' Market Returns January 16th

Berkshire Grown will host its next Holiday Farmers’ Market this Saturday at Monument Valley Middle School in Great Barrington from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

This has been a great run of pop-up markets that began in November, giving local farmers, artisans and food producers the chance to interact with the Berkshires community for mutual benefit throughout the colder months.

We’re proud to be a part of it and hope you can join us for all the food, fun and festivities this event has to offer.

A Few Words About Winter Farmers Markets this season

IMG_0402.JPG

You may have noticed we're not selling our products at as many winter markets this year as we have in the past.

The main reason is we’ve made the decision to focus our energy on the wholesale side of our business in 2016, as we continue to provide locally produced fermented foods to more stores, restaurants, cafés, wellness centers and schools in Massachusetts and beyond.

We’re very grateful to all the market managers and customers who have supported us over the years, and we will still participate in as many local markets as we can, but the two of us can only be in so many places at once. As demand for our products has increased, so have our responsibilities and we’re doing our best to give each of them the attention they deserve.

The other reason is we're launching a new Web site this month that offers direct online sales for the first time. This allows our customers across the country to order their favorite Hosta Hill products in a totally new way. One that thankfully allows us to spend less time on the road and more time in the kitchen.

So, please keep an eye out for our products on new shelves and tables, especially in the Boston area. And, please don't hesitate to give us a call or send us an email with additional suggestions. Requesting our products in your favorite store or restaurant helps buyers make informed decisions about what their customers want.

Wayland Winter Market Begins January 9th

We’re proud to be returning to the Wayland Winter Farmers Market, which will feature a revolving cast of over 100 diverse vendors during its 10-week run at Russell’s Garden Center through March 12th.

Sign up for their newsletter and follow their Facebook page to find out which farmers, artists and local food producers will be participating each week.

This will be our only winter market of the season in Eastern Massachusetts and we’ll be there every other week, starting this Saturday, with all your favorite Hosta Hill products, including our krauts, Kimchi, Krautonics, Tempeh and our new lacto-fermented red jalapeño hot sauce.

If you want to mark your calendar, our weeks are January 9th, January 23rd, February 6th, February 20th and March 6th.

Hope to see you there!
